Volunteer Programs
Volunteer and language program
The volunteer and language program through the library La Pagina en la Puerta includes (specifics listed below) a volunteer position in the library, participation in a standard mini-group Spanish course, and accommodations with a host family in Cusco. You can decide on a minimum of a one week placement to 4 weeks or more.
Each volunteer will be picked up from the airport by the host family on the Sunday before the volunteer work and Spanish course begins. This will give you the chance to get to know your family and acclimate to the altitude of Cusco. The next day your host family will bring you to your first day of your Spanish course, teaching you how to get there on your own. The family will then pick you up from your class showing you how to get back home. That afternoon, either someone from your host family or someone from the library will
pick you up to show you the way to and from the library via public transportation. You will receive a map with general directions to the library, phone numbers, and contact information.
Once at the library, each volunteer is given a tour of the library, introduced to the teachers and to the children. The responsibilities of the volunteer are reviewed, and the volunteer is then invited to join a child or children and read. The volunteer has a basically autonomous and independent roll at the library.
